Holiday Candy Rewind This is one of the easiest candy recipes to prepare at home. It's a no-bake recipe to boot and perfect for giving your oven a rest this time of year.
Since 1945 kids of all ages have been enjoying gumdrops straight out of the box, cleverly plucked from gumdrop trees, or used in memorable nougat candy.
Homemade gumdrop nougats are a great way to enjoy the sweet days of yesteryear!
Time To Prepare:
About 20 minutes to assemble; best if left overnight in the fridge to fully set.
Foodie Tips:
If you prefer your gumdrops smaller in size you can cut them in half before stirring into the nougat. I left mine whole.
Have fun using the gumdrop "DOTS" that speak to your inner child. I went with multi-colored DOTS and for Christmas gift-giving, you can use just red and green gumdrops.
Ingredients:
2 Cups | White Chocolate Chips (I used Ghirardelli Classic White Chips) 16 Ounces | Mini Marshmallows 4 Tablespoons | Butter 2 Cups (2 Large Boxes) | DOTS Gumdrops (by Tootsie Roll)
What To Do:
1. In a large microwave-safe bowl add the chocolate chips, the mini marshmallows, and the butter. 2. Microwave for 60 seconds. Remove the mixture and give it a good stir with a silicon spatula. 3. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals stirring between each round until everything is melted. Don't overheat your chocolate! I only needed 2 minutes of warming in total. 4. Add the gumdrops and stir quickly - you don't want the nougat mixture to cool so that it will be easiest to spread. 5. Spread the nougat into a parchment-lined 9" x 13" pan. Press and evenly smooth the nougat with a silicon spatula. I tried to keep the white nougat on top of the dots to give it that classic look of all-white on the tops and the colorful burst from the inside and sides. 6. Cover and place in your fridge overnight to let the nougat firm up. You can make this ahead of time as nougat will store well in the fridge for 2-3 weeks. It may dry a bit so I recommend making it closer to showtime. 7. When ready to cut remove the nougat from the refrigerator and transfer to a cutting board/mat. Use a large sharp knife to cut these into 1" squares or 1" x 3/4" rectangles.
8. Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy! They are easiest to chew at room temperature and you can also enjoy these chilled. 9. If gift-giving you can place your prepared nougats in airtight tins/containers and separate layers with wax or parchment so the candies don't stick together. Enjoy the best of the holidays!
